Gogglebox stars Dave and Shirley Griffiths are celebrating a special occasion this week. Shirley marked her 71st birthday with her husband as they enjoyed a night out together. The Welsh couple, who first appeared on the Channel 4 programme back in 2015, quickly became viewer favourites.
Dave and Shirley have consistently entertained audiences with their witty remarks throughout their time on the show. On Instagram yesterday, a post to their joint account said: “Thanks to everyone for my lovely presents on my 71st birthday and happy St Patrick’s day to everyone.”
The couple were sent supportive messages after the update. Fellow Gogglebox stars Jenny and Lee said: “Have a fabulous day Shirley, much love.” Other responses included: “Wishing you a very Happy birthday Dave enjoy your celebrations” and “Happy Happy Birthday Shirley, I hope it was filled with everything you love.”
The birthday messages continued, as further replies were: “Happy birthday to the ever hilarious Shirl who makes me laugh so much” and “Happy Birthday, hope you have a lovely day.”
Dave and Shirley shared a relationship update in November 2025 as they marked 50 years together. Posting an old photograph of the two, Dave wrote in the caption: “50 years on November 15 I wed the lovely Shirley. Happy anniversary darling, here’s to making more happy memories.”

Gogglebox first aired in the UK on March 7 2013. There have since been 25 series that have aired on Channel 4. The much-loved TV show is still going strong and last year, five new families were announced.
Mike Cotton, Creative Director for Studio Lambert, the production team behind Gogglebox, said: “It’s a delight to welcome some new households to the Gogglebox family.
“Along with our much loved returning cast, we can’t wait to join them in their living rooms and hear their candid thoughts on this weeks most talked about TV.”
In July 2025, Gogglebox fans were disappointed after finding out two stars from the show have been axed. Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle were the first Scots to appear on Gogglebox in over six years but did not return for the latest series.
In Roisin’s message to followers, she added: “It’s been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don’t actually need subtitles.
“We have made friends for life and after filming every week for years you have become like our family! We could not have asked for better people to work with and we will miss you immensely.”
